Last Thursday, August 21, 2008, our club conducted a Mass Blood Letting Project at the Rep. Pedro Trono Memorial Hospital in the Municipality of Guimbal, Iloilo, in cooperation with the Western Visayas Medical Center. Initially, only 80 donors registered, but actual persons who donated their blood numbered more than 100 donors. This bloodletting project has been going on for more than two years already and is implemented every 6 months. We can never quantify the number of lives that were saved using the blood generated by this project of ours. In my speech and that of PP Ronnel Quiñon, we reiterated the importance of donating blood to save lives. Our members, Sec. Toto, IPP Kano, PP Ronnel, PE Apuy and Rtn. Boy Ravena were present and were busy assisting the doctors, nurses and medical technologists during the screening process and the actual extraction of blood. PP Ronnel “draws the first blood” as he was the first donor.

A good number of Metro Rotarians attended the Governor’s Joint Address held last Saturday at the Sarabia Manor Hotel. The Governor in her address presented to us her plans and goals for the district and encouraged all the member clubs to embrace the “Bayanihan” spirit in achieving the goals set by our RI President DK Lee. She challenged all clubs to increase its membership and contribute generously to the Rotary Foundation.

PP Chris Montero, chairperson in charge of our website committee under Club Public Relations, has already set up and activated our new and impressive website, www.rotarymetroiloilo.org. Visit it and feel free to comment and contribute your valuable inputs to make our website informative, relevant and interesting. The website is one way of increasing the awareness of our members in the affairs of our club and will also serve as a venue to propound their ideas for the betterment of our club. The committee has also formed the Metro E-group to enable all members to have faster access to important events and activities of our club, and to simplify and speed up communication by way of e-mailing.

Hopefully by next week, we can already implement our Day Care centers rehabilitation project, so I am calling all committee chairmen in charge to finalize within the week, their respective plans and schedules for the implementation of the project.
