Last week, together with PDG Ramon Cua Locsin and other Metro Rotarians, we gave out books, television, karaoke, DVD players, tables and chairs to our adopted Day Care Centers in Brgy. Taft North and Brgy. Airport, both in the District of Mandurriao. These items are actually replacement of the same donated items that were lost or damaged during the onslaught of Typhoon Frank. We also distributed relief items, such as clothing and shoes, donated by Natasha Philippines and the RC of Historic Filipinotown in the US.  By this week, we can cover more day care centers since almost all the items needed were already procured. Last Tuesday, Dir. Roland Uy, Rtn. James Woo and I, together with Dra. Gerochi of the Iloilo Pediatric Society visited one of the biggest barangays in our city, Brgy. Calumpang in Molo, to inspect and assess the needs of the said community. Our Director for Community Service has targeted this barangay for a project that would address the lack in basic services such as in health, sanitation, water and education. This could be a flagship project of our club since the approach will be a comprehensive one and if successful could greatly alleviate the distressful situation of that community.

The committee for sports and fellowship headed by Dir. Don Marcellana, has already drafted the members of both the Yellow and Blue team for our inter-color sports fest. This event will enhance fellowship, foster good relationship and above all develop better camaraderie and teamwork among our members. This would also serve as a tune up for our participation in the Metro Rotary Sports fest in Cagayan de Oro. My fellow Metro Rotarians let us all join our sport fest because the most important thing in our rotary life is not to win but to take part. Click here to see the teams.

The Rotary Club of Bacolod North is inviting us to join the District Membership Development Seminar on September 13, 2008 to be held in Bacolod City.  For more information, please contact our secretary.
