Last Saturday evening, members of the Yellow and Blue Teams trooped to Gaisano City for their first encounter in our InterColor sports fest. Supremacy in darts and table tennis events were contested. Initial incomplete results showed the Yellow Team of PE Apuy and Dir. Don winning more games in darts, while the Blue Team of IPP Kano & PP Chris and the Yellow Team were about even in the table tennis event. We are still in the elimination phase of our tournament, and so we cannot predict at this stage as to who shall emerge to be the best team. It would all depend on the participation and support the members can give to their respective teams. The number of members who were present last Saturday is a good indication that we will have a successful tournament.

Last Friday afternoon, we were at our adopted Brgy. Bolilao Day Care Center in Jaro, Iloilo City, to turn over books, karaoke Set, DVD player, electric fans, relief items such as new children clothing, shoes, toothbrush, etc. Construction materials, such as GI sheets, plywood and painting material etc. were also delivered to restore the day care classroom.

Construction labor was provided by the parents of the children. Dir. Paul Francia helped and even dirtied his delicate surgeon’s hands doing the painting job. I encourage our members to participate in future projects of this nature to experience first hand the joy and satisfaction of seeing others happy because of our help.

On September 16, 2008 (Tuesday) and September 23 (Tuesday) we will have similar projects at Brgy. Buntatala in Jaro and Brgy Ungka I in Pavia respectively. Kindly find time to get involved and join these opportune activities after Typhoon Frank’s destructive aftermath.

Last Saturday Sec. Toto and I attended the District Membership Development Seminar in Bacolod City. It was a good learning experience on our part. During the well attended seminar, DG Emma Nava announced the Best Web Site Competition in our district. I am confident that we have a very good chance to win this competition. Let me encourage every member to visit our website often at rotarymetroiloilo.org, and contribute and share his input on how to enrich and enhance it further.

We would like to acknowledge La Suerte Cigar and Cigarette Factory for their donation of 150 pieces of toothbrush for the Day Care Centers.
