Last week was a very hectic one for our club… yet a fulfilling one for this is a good sign that we are an active club, true to the calling of our commitment to serve our fellowmen. Last week, we continued to donate books, school supplies, educational equipment and relief goods to our 3 adopted day care centers in Brgy. Dungon A, Brgy, Dungon B and Brgy. Ungka I. Almost all the books and some educational equipment of these Day Care Centers were destroyed during “Typhoon Frank” last June 2008. Since then, these Day Care Centers can barely resume their normal activities due to the lack of books and equipment. It was therefore a welcome relief on their part to receive from us the much needed goods and materials for their daycare centers.

Another activity during the week was the highly successful club level competition for the Voice of the Youth Impromptu Speaking Contest. Seven participants from the different secondary schools in the city were there to vie for the first prize and the right to represent our club in the District level competition in Bacolod City on November 3. 2008. The contest was ably won by a student from the Iloilo Central Commercial High School. It was a well attended event with top notch judges coming from the academe and the arts. Kudos to IPP Kano Ng for his outstanding efforts in ensuring the success of this project.

Last week, during our 4th regular monthly board meeting, many projects were conceptualized and are scheduled for implementation in the coming months.

The much awaited “Havaianas” slippers project will push through on October 20, 2008. Representative from Havaianas will be arriving to witness the distribution of the slippers to public school children in Sibalom, Antique and Bo. Obrero in Iloilo City.

Also this October, a free cataract operation for indigent patients will be performed by doctors from the Iloilo Ophthalmology Society headed by Dra. Karen Francia We can refer qualified and deserving patients for this worthy project.

The “On to Cagayan De Oro Metro Sports Fest” committee headed by PE Apuy is already in the thick of planning and preparing for the trip of our Metro Iloilo Team on October 23 to 26, 2008. Our ever reliable and prime mover VP Corlie Ho, as usual, managed to facilitate the transportation requirements of our team members. As of today, 22 members will join the Sports Fest. Again, I would like to reiterate the need to support our team; they will carry the colors and the name of our club.
