Medical and Surgical Mission

Last week was a very busy week for our club with a flurry of activities starting last Tuesday, when we delivered and turned over various equipments, books and teaching aids to our adopted day care center in Barangay Guzman, Mandurriao, Iloilo City.  This project will benefit the 58 preschoolers who are presently enrolled in the said day care center.

Last Thursday we facilitated the screening of our prospective patient/beneficiaries for the Medical and Surgical Mission scheduled in the last week of January 2009.  Of all the Rotary clubs in Iloilo, our club has the most number of patients. Thanks to "Doc" Kano who was very efficient in seeing to it that all of our patients were properly attended to by the doctors of VWMC and that they had all undergone the right and necessary laboratory tests.

The same day, our club also visited the Balay Dalangpan to check if the equipments we donated to the center were properly utilized and has benefited our intended beneficiaries. We were glad that the ultimate objective of our project was fully realized. With our donated oven, dough making machines and other baking equipment, our beneficiaries (the mentally challenged student of the center) has already successfully produced pan de sal and other bakery products. Their acquired baking skills will be a good source of livelihood for them in the future.

It was really a "Rotary in Action" week for our club!

Our Past President and charter member, Pedro "Pete" Javelosa, passed away last January 13, 2009. Let us all pray for the repose of his soul.
